Learning at home can take place in so many ways and you are only limited by your imagination.  Here are a few possibilities that might be worth a try during the summer break.

Family card and bored games... These provide endless hours of fun and games can vary in difficulty.  From Snakes ' n Ladders to Monopoly to Cluedo.  Or card games like Memory or Fish to Black Jack or 500.

Calendar fun... highlighting 'dates to remember' and counting down days to special events, recognising days of the week and months of the year.

Baking.... it doesn't matter how small or simple, skills in the kitchen are endless... measuring, food prep, time, science and technology, and exploring creative flare.

Gardening... science, care and nurture, water conservation, healthy eating or even spread your wings and explore the native bush along popular walking tracks.

Word games... These can be a great way to keep the peace when traveling.  For example 'eye spy' or 'number plate cricket'.

Involve your child in planning events... For example the time it will take to travel somewhere (for older children), or cost is will be for the family to go somewhere, or preparing the luggage.

Construction... and not just limited to blocks and lego.  Be brave let your child have a go with wood, hammer and nails.  You may end up with a lovely birds house or fort.  Think of all the planning, scaling and measuring that will take place.  Even the angle in which you hammer a nail into the wood.

Holiday Photo Book... Allow your child to explore photography, and to take photos in and around the home as well as special events.  Editing, saving and layout with the latest technologies and a child's creative perspective.

Becoming a fashion designer... working with your child to teach them sewing skills.  Perhaps following a pattern, or perhaps designing an original outfit. (This may test your patience a little!!)

Let you child be the expert.. The senior students this year have been exploring the local waterways... Take your child to a nearby river and they will proudly share with you their knowledge.

Trips to the library... encourage fun reading over the holidays.  A trip to the library often proves popular.  If these trips are planned carefully, it may coincide with one of there many free sessions for children.

Make the most of activities provided the local council...Many of these are free and advertised in the local paper.  many of these are free and designed for the warmer weather and the whole family.
